Preparation: All surfaces must be clean and free of dust, dirt, oils, and grease. Make sure the surface is sound and free of loose or flaking paint. It is highly recommended to prime the surface with the correct primer in accordance with the substrate. Do not paint over shiny, smooth surfaces, such as plastic or glossy oil-based paints, unless prepared with the right primer. Application Methods: Meoded Sapphire Metallic Paint can be applied with a brush, roller, or sprayed. Work quickly in one direction, from joint to joint, keeping a wet edge while working. Spraying may require thinning with water; do not over-thin. Two or more coats are usually required to obtain the desired look. Apply only during temperate conditions: 50° to 90°F and between 25% and 75% relative humidity. Higher temperatures and lower humidity may cause the paint to lose its wet edge. Spraying: To spray Sapphire Metallic use an HVLP or Conventional cup gun. Thin with up to 10% water, 12 fluid ounces of water to one gallon of paint. Use a Titan Capspray 115, Maxum 2 gun with a needle size #3 or a Titan CAT-X Gun with the fluid and air supply from a compressor. Use a needle size 1.5 and a #24-1352 air cap. Recommended air pressure at the gun, is approximately 25-35psi, with greater pressure at the tank, approximately 75-90psi. For best results apply 3 coats in a cross-hatch pattern. Provide adequate ventilation. Sealer: For exterior application, it is recommended to protect Sapphire Metallic Paint with Meoded Cristallo Clear Coat. Two coats will usually provide adequate protection, while three coats are recommended for high-traffic areas.
